Breakthrough in Sodium-ion Energy Density Reaches 200 Wh/kg
A research team has announced a breakthrough in sodium-ion battery technology, achieving an energy density of 200 Wh/kg at the cell level — a significant milestone that brings sodium-ion performance closer to mainstream lithium-ion batteries.
The breakthrough was achieved through the development of a novel layered oxide cathode material and an advanced hard carbon anode structure. The new cell design also demonstrated excellent cycling stability, retaining over 90% capacity after 1,000 charge-discharge cycles.
This development marks an important step forward for sodium-ion technology, addressing the primary limitation that has historically prevented its widespread adoption in applications requiring high energy density.
